Charlie Parker was one of the greatest saxophonists of all time. He taught Miles Davis how to play Jazz. They called him “Bird” because he ate fried chicken all the time. Edwards started this painting when he was 16 years old. Also featured in this piece are Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, Betsy Smith and Dizzy Gillespie. It’s goal is to embody the 40s and 50s when Jazz was at its peak.

Description

The Bird is an homage to Edwards’ love of live jazz. The flowing colors and sprites represent the jazz, the music, and the way it moves. This piece expresses what Edwards feels when he’s listening to jazz.
